Last month I was blessed with the opportunity to attend the Gala, celebrating 40 years since the Craft Council of Newfoundland first opened its' doors, aiding artists across the province find their way in a big, big world. Today there are numerous craft artists in Newfoundland who are distributing their work world-wide because of help received from the council. As well, the Craft Industry in Newfoundland itself has grown at amazing rates.
The evening started with some congratulatory remarks by members of the arts community, ACOA and the Department of Innovation, Business and Rural Development. A buzz continued throughout the night as representatives of the media were on hand to interview some of the award winners. It was a great evening with fun, food and exceptional crafted works by members for the Annual Exhibit.
If you haven't yet had a chance to browse through the gallery and be amazed by the local talent, the exhibit continues until August 12 at Devon House, 59 Duckworth St. in St. John's.
Thanks for this lovely blog post, Libby! We've tweeted it and shared it on our Facebook page, as well. If you'd like to write a blog feature for the Craft Council's blog one day, we'd be delighted!
