Just a bit sketchy!

It's been a while since I cleaned my studio and it's about time I did some posting!! I have been making small sketches on paper and clay! As you will see in the next few photos I have been using my skills to draw on my pots and on small flat pieces of porcelain. Although it is much easier to draw on paper, I do enjoy a drawing in reverse.

You may say, what is drawing in reverse? Well, where drawing on paper requires that we put down a mark with the graphite pencil, the drawing that I've been doing on clay involves removing clay from the surface. First the clay surface is prepared with a few coats of coloured underglaze or slip. Once the colour is dry it can be removed. A coloured line is made by removing the area around it. As you will see on the bowl below, the black lines have been made by removing the black clay around it to show the light clay below. As you can imagine, a bit of concentration is required for drawing in reverse!
