How to pack your pottery and ceramics safely.

I have decided to include a " how to" article within my blog. Hopefully you will be able to use it to lessen the hassle and cost of some of your packaging needs.

It all starts with a small paper shredder and all those unwanted papers and flyers that are delivered to us on a weekly basis.  I collect my unwanted paper products and shred them as I receive them. After the shredder is full I use a plastic kitchen bag to contain the shredded bits. You can use any kind of container you like but I find the plastic bag can hold alot of shreds, it is light and can be easily stashed in the studio.

When ready to send your fragile pottery or ceramics, fill the bottom of a box with some of the shreds, a few inches worth. It is very important to wrap your pieces in bubble wrap, this way if the pieces touch each other in shipping they are protected.

Place your heaviest pieces on the bottom. Make sure to add shreds of paper between each layer. If you have a few bowls or plates that are the same size it is good to tape the bubble wrapped bowls or plates together. This way there will be less movement of the pieces and less likelihood of breakage.
Here you can see some pieces peeking through.
Before you tape up the box make sure it is filled to the top with paper so no ceramics is showing. Your package is then ready to go, safe and secure.  Hope this helps!
